Debris along the Approach Trail

Debris along the Approach Trail

By mid-afternoon, we had passed several stretches of noticeable litter and debris along the trail. At one point, another hiker told us the debris was the remnants of a light airplane that had crashed some time before, and left in the woods. But we were walking past pink house insulation, stryofoam panels, magazine and book pages -- just a remarkable amount of litter. And much of it looked fresh, not packed down and soiled.

I found it was surprising how poorly the Georgians treated their landscape, particularly a state park. I had seen nothing but pride in the way they treated Amicalola proper. Sure, littering happens everywhere, but up here? Bummer.
