John Muir Trail, 1998 Thru Hike

These images are from our thru-hike of the JMT in 98. We hiked from August 16 through September 3, southbound. The hike took 18 days to complete, covering about 220 miles. Solophile and I are indebted to Big Bird (of AT 97 fame) for the splendid hospitality in the Bay City, the time he took off to be our personal tour guide, and the great hitch out to Yosemite.

We Arrived!
Solophile and DNA at the western entrance to Yosemite. We had the good fortune of having our own personal guide for this park of the trek. Big Bird had been to Yosemite many times, and knew a lot of the area lore and news. He would treat us to a tour of the park, visiting the highlights by car before we'd hit the trailhead. It's August 16, 1998.
