Grey day on Beauty Spot The Indians had myths about why the Balds exist, and told of Buffalo and Elk that grazed, but neither they nor the settlers that displaced them could answer the mystery. Places like Beauty Spot are now kept clear of trees by annual mowing. With the weather shifting from the gorgeous sunny days I had just enjoyed, Beauty Spot didn't offer the vistas of Grandfather Mountain or other views hikers noted in the shelter registers. Now, off to Clyde Smith if I can. I need to pull at least one 20 mile day to make Elk Park and Skip. |
