I met JettButt and his girlfriend Sherbear from upstate NY in the parking lot of the visitors center. They had acquired their nicknames in college -- hers was due to a love of the Carebear childrens stories -- his, well, we don't really need to go there. Anyway, they had adopted their nicknames as their 'Trail Names'. Almost everyone ends up with a Trail name while hiking. It might be self-assigned like theirs (and mine), or it might be 'earned' by a hiking or camp event, mishap, place, or just an unusual label bestowed or saddled upon an individual. Etiology aside, it becomes ones identity.
