Couples on trail

Couples on trail

Port and Starboard are one of the couples. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure the trail names of the other four, 'though I've met all of them. Pink Panthers? Sole Power? Not sure.

Thunderchicken and I were cruising through this stretch south of Atkins, and these folks had been in the registers in front of me since D-town. Great to see so many couples on trail. Aside from Sherbear and JettButt or Toonman and Curljob, most were retired. Ahead in the registers were Annie and the Salesman.

There were trail romances, of course. Pieps and Permagrin seemed to be getting along well. The gals are probably 20 percent of the population. People are people, so even in this curious linear adventure, folks will connect. Maybe because of the common and shared experiences, we bond more readily. Certainly, we have fewer artificial boundaries to cross, when one is with another rain or shine, eat with them, slapping bugs, wiping mud, dripping sweat, sleep adjacent to them and all the rest -- there's a kinship that develops. Brothers in boots. Perhaps that is Brothers and Sisters.
