Big Meadows Wayside
Big John and DNA. Our first attempt at the 'Triple Crown' of the Shennies: to eat three consecutive meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in the same day along the Trail. There are only two places to pull this off: starting at Big Meadows for Breakfast (lunch at Skyland, dinner at Panorama) or start at Skyland.
J: Big John and I got up late and hit the trail. We made Big Meadows at 11:30. Dreams of a Triple Crown today dashed before we had even taken one bite: the lodge was closed between breakfast and lunch. We hoofed to the wayside - ate, and made Rock Spring Hut. It was early in the afternoon. We re-evaluated our lunch/dinner plans - couldn't make it because Panorama closes at 5, not 7:30 as we were told in Big Meadows. OK - so tomorrow we'll do a repeat attempt: Skyland, Panorama, Elk Meadows. Saturday should prove more fruitful, anyway.
