Barely two months into my plan, I had the good fortune of renting my house to a colleague and her partner for the remainder of the year. Both my mortgage and my property were in the hands of someone I knew well and trusted.
This is ice along the fenceline of VPI's airport perimeter.
I moved into the basement room of a house just east of the Tech airport, with students from my department. My commute to both campus and the part-time gig was cut to nothing. I could even bike or run to work, weather permitting. That was the plan, at least. If nothing else, I could 'hike' into work with a weighted pack. As I said, that was the plan. Nature had other ideas.
