Blue Mountain, July 11

Blue Mountain, July 11

Pennsylvania has a view -- who knew? Most of the views looked east, into farmland and small towns. This one looked west. A great rest stop, as climbing up from 81 was substantial. Not the post-Duncannon nightmare, but the legs had a little work.

Some of the trail is less maintained. Walking through hiphigh brierpatchs overhanging the trail path. Not the edible briers either. Oh, there were some raspberries and blackberries, even some blueberries almost ripe here at elevation. Maybe it's a matter of timing. So much of the trail is clearly maintained frequently. Am I passing through a section that hasn't had its haircut this month? Maybe why I noticed are the rocks. More of them here, catching toes now and again. Great weather for mid-July. I'll take it.

Hiked with Memphis and Sourball from William Penn shelter (nice!) up to the 501. More fun trail stories. At the 501, what a treat: 'George' ferried the whole crew down into town for dinner and resupply. Ate a huge calzone. Spent too much $, but was it good. Back at the shelter -- fancy. Has a decagon sunroof in the middle for light. Fabulous stay. The register entry goes way back. Found Chaos' entry from 6/23/1993, along with Rude Dawg, Bruce and a few others. Bill Irwin was in it, too. A 17.9 day.
