Indiana Jean and Sherbear

Indiana Jean and Sherbear

Made the first shelter by lunch. Indy and I were eating our snacks, chatting, and then heard this odd animal call. Not loud, not a howl, but a low start and stop of something. SherBear came around the corner. The wailing wasn't a wild animal loose in the woods. She was in tears over leaving J.B.

They had come to a decision about the hike and his feet. He was to hitch to D.W.G. to let the heels heal a bit. She was determined to hike. Totally distraught by what she felt was an abandonment of her mate, Sheri was really shaken.

'I just left him. What if something happens to him out THERE? He's in the 'other world - there are crazy people out there!', she exclaimed. If we weren't so worried about her emotional state, I think we would have burst out laughing. Here we are, crazy by most peoples' standards, and the shining truth is WE WORRY about what might happen to one of our own in that other 'civilized' environment from which we've sprung to hike this A.T.

We packed up after Sheri had collected herself. Time for more rocks.
