Vernal Swamp, NJ
7/24: Hiked most of the day alone. Made High Point State Park late afternoon. Met park stafferr Rebecca and her friend, Michella. Becca was full of questions about the trail. I offered to fill her in over dinner, if she drove. She accepted.
So I washed up -- nice showers at High Point -- got into my best camp clothes (that would be the one and only other pair of clothes I had - mostly-mud-free camos and sorta clean, once-was-white camp shirt), and a bit after five, Becca showed up. We went into town (Port Jervis?) and had a wonderful meal. Had a tour of the park. Bid her thanks for the evening and night-hiked to the shelter.
7/25: This morning, Indiana Jean and I tackled the Vernal Swamp boardwalk. With two days of rain, the water had come up, floating the boardwalk. Walking out on the boards, they would slowly settle down into the water.
