More Vermont Views As the day wore on, Beryl stopped dumping on us. I was lunching at the Clarendon Shelter when Jack in the Green, Seuss and Tupelo caught up with me. Seuss was on a hunt to discover who 'accidentally' acquired his Wingfoot, then cannibalized it at the Mad Tom shelter. The VT-ME section had been ripped out and replaced with the '93 section. The book had disappeared from Manchester Center. I was questioned, 'a maglite held up over my head. There was not smoke drifting up from a non-existant cigarette. I was sworn to secrecy. I can do that, I've been trained...' or maybe not, but they seemed satisfied I had nothing to do with the event. We hiked on together, beginning the approach toward Killington. Made it to the Gov. Clement shelter with Tupelo and stayed the night. Governor Clement is the shelter where Gourmet John was robbed on Saturday night (it's Monday). G. John had two locals show up in a jeep with loud music, wanting to build a fire at 1 a.m. They were drunk - and asked to leave. In the morning, two packs and John's top hoodpack were gone! Later, we learned the cops had pulled the fellas over on another charge, and all of the gear was recovered. Trail magic. |
