Rangeley approach

9/19 - Rangeley approach

What words do justice to standing at the shore of South Pond, where a cow moose grazes across the water near the other bank, beneath the spruce/fir and within the shadow of Saddleback Mtn, while the sky is filled with grey/blue clouds of every shade? Water rippled by the wind, legs aching from the day's march toward Katahdin - heart beat rises in my ears, yet the moose gently ambles through her chosen field of water, sampling green and wet, shaking coat as a filly might on some Tennessee pasture west of Knoxville or the Virginia piedmont within sight of Monticello.
