Rufus Morgan Shelter Typical shelter evening -- lay the gear out to let the thermarests inflate. Loft the sleeping bag. Maybe change out of the hiking shirt and shorts into camp clothes -- or not. Prep dinner on the gas stove. Shake up some pistachio pudding dessert (as seen here) in an empty peanut butter container. Get a full water bottle for mid-night drinks from the filtered cache done before dinner. Brush your teeth, and crash until dawn. J: Made over 16 mi to Wesser Bald (what a climb, had to 2-stick it with a R heel blister) -- then to Jumpup Lookout. Coming down the three miles from J-L to Rufus was the 3 most excruciating miles since Blueberry Patch. Wilted and done-for was how I felt, but here in the shelter is Fox and Jaguar Bob. Met Laidback Sue (and she is), Hickory and Acorn. Hickory is a 19 yr old birder. Acorn might be sweet on Laidback. This shelter is poison ivy (P.I.) heaven. Shelter chatter: 'This book -- gosh, it's got a lot of pages.' - Laidback Sue |
