Climbing into Alpine Vegetation As the Trail heads further north into the center of the park, it is gaining elevation. The plant biota along the Trail reflects this, moving into more of a spruce fir realm from the mixed hardwoods of the lower altitudes. The 'christmas tree' terpene smells predominate and the understory isn't quite as dense. Wind moving through this canopy sounds different, too. If the photo seems a little bright, the one final thing to note is the abundant standing dead timber among the living. |
