Stone Arch

Stone Arch

Toon and I made 'Gapland", the Gathland State Park. No water. Oh, my. The restrooms were locked! Really hot and disappointed, we found a flier for a local camp on an info board. Following the road to the camp, we found the water spigot surrounded by a troop of Brownie Girl Scouts. Hmmm, was there going to be a rumble? Two smelly thristy thru-hikers verses a whole tribe of well-organized pint-sized vixens? We must have scared them pretty well, as they gathered their coolers protectively and left.

This camp was set on the hillside. It was composed of cabins set on stilts - named the 'Treehouse Camp Ground'. After a half hour of lazily washing, we were approached by Judy Pratt, the camp manager, wheeling a load of mulch to a compost bin.

Judy treated us to ice and a brief history of the camp. She's a frustrated marine biologist looking for a better lifestyle. Aren't we all.

With water, we headed back to the packs at the park (where we had disguised them as two packs leaning against a wall...) They were still there, in their stealth mode. And we headed up toward the next shelter, Crampton Gap. Met a boy scout troop coming south.

As we were leaving Crampton Gap, Memphis and Sourball came in. A long hike into Dahlgren Camping Area treated us to a hot shower. Out of nowhere, we were also treated to a hail storm. Good timing, weathering out a nasty storm in a restroom, ate and cleaned up.
