One word for PA: Welcome
One thing about Pennsylvania hiking: it's supposed to have rocks and it certainly was hazy, hot and humid, but the people living there made up for the inhospitable weather. People stop along the road walks and offer a ride without even hitching, or water. Everyone waved. I'd tease DreamCatcher: 'they're like Southerners, save for the funky accent'. Being from D.C., I grew up in a very cosmopolitan environment, had a Bostonian for a college roommate, high school and college friends settled in PA and NY, and traveled widely in college and after. But she didn't know that - so Magoo (a Georgian) and I had a little fun with the whole Mason Dixon thing. Walking along one of the many PA state routes that serve as the white blaze in the valley parts of the state, you just couldn't escape the local friendliness.
