Leland Cheese memorial
The Cheshire Cheese Press memorial - after Jefferson was elected in 1800, Elder John Leland and the town decided to send him a gift of a local wheel of cheese. Every dairy farmer in the town contributed, but it was a political stunt where no Federalist cows were allowed to contribute. Not sure if they asked the cows about political affiliation, but if anyone doubts the silliness of politics running the length of history, let this 1200 pound four foot wheel of cheese simply add to the madness.
