Cheshire MA P.O. Up early - great sleep. So now I await 8 a.m. and the P.O. opening. Ha! A mail drop! Been a while since I've seen one of those little brown boxes. Thank you Kirsten! So my next call was to mom and dad. 'Hi Dad,' "Hi Paul! Where are you?' My dad was a traveling salesman. He grew up in NY, but knew most of the east coast well. 'I'm in Salisbury.' 'Oh, horse country. Some pretty land up there.' 'Yep. So have you looked at any of the picts?' 'I have. Paul, they're nice, but they aren't very good. I don't mean your shots -- what kind of camera do you have?' 'Oh. Really? Um, I have this lightweight 35mm.' 'The pictures are blurry and warped, like a cheap lens. We see the mountains and sunsets and the people we don't know. Saw some of Seth from Harpers Ferry. But the pictures aren't coming out the way you might think they should.' 'Ouch. OK. Thanks for the heads up. I should have sent you film back in Georgia. There's a busstop here near the church that goes to a mall. I'll go shopping.' And with that, I caught a bus and braved a mall. The camera shop had this pretty little olympus stylus 35mm with flash. Twice as heavy as the old camera, but smaller and with a lot more features. Even a zoom. I bought it. Time to ride the bus back. |
