Stealth camp, Moriah

Stealth camp, Moriah

M=9.2; C=1842.1; E=4049

Camped atop Moriah Mountain, stealth-camped as it were. Found an idle stealth site just tens of yards from the trail junction of Carter Moriah and Kenduskeag trails. According to the map from the hiker box, I'm above 4000' still. The wind and cloud screams through the fir around me and the rain pelts the tent in waves. Temp is 5C in the tent - storm has raged since yesterday afternoon.

The howling of the wind brings to mind the Lightfoot Fitzgerald song,
'Does anyone know where the love of god goes when the gales of November come early...
All that remains are the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters.'

That song runs through my mind every day I'm in a big blow.

Sad news today - heard Indiana Jean is off the trail. Apparently just north of Mahoosic Notch, she slid and broke a leg. I had hoped to catch her by the 100 mile as I'm carrying a sealed envelope from Bill Robinson - Cascade Lodge - to deliver to her. She's a great hiker; sorry to see her off trail.
