DNA and Optimistic Crusader in Hot Springs, NC.
Needed a full day off and May 2 fit the bill. Hoofing it the day before from Mt. Mama's, I found the legs were strong. Had great lungs. A lot of the pack reorg was starting to pay off, but the R knee was still a bit sketchy. A day off would be a good thing. Do some shopping, explore this little town.
J: Yesterday, I mailed home the hat, gloves, thermarest and some additional unneeded gear. Bought a thin ridged polyethylene pad as a replacement. Shaved three or 4 pounds, but pack is still heavy. This weekend was my first zero mile day. The NOC was a 0.8 mile day when I moved up from the shelter. Wow, a zero mile day. Another evening at the motel. Crashed with O.C. Watched Carlito's Way on VHS last night.
Sunday morning - O.C. and I crossed the French Broad bridge, went up the hill meeting Getoverit on the way. Made Spring Mtn. shelter 11 miles later with Fox, Permagrin, Yeti, and met Otter, Seuss and Eeyore. It's turned COLD and wet.
Ugly day to be hiking. Good day to be sheltered.
