These images are from our thru-hike of the JMT in 98. We hiked from August 16 through September 3, southbound. The hike took 18 days to complete, covering about 220 miles. Solophile and I are indebted to Big Bird (of AT 97 fame) for the splendid hospitality in the Bay City, the time he took off to be our personal tour guide, and the great hitch out to Yosemite.

Breakfast at Sunrise Solophile's Stevenson tent proved itself during her A.T. thruhike, and I was only too happy to retire my worn Kelty in favor of something more robust. Morning rituals of grabbing breakfast, airing gear before packing up, and figuring out the day's adventure were our norm. We split the hauling of the Stevenson. We also carried similar Northface 20 ° down bags, thermarest pads, PUR water filters (iodine tabs as a backup), stuffsacks for food, clothing, whitegas cookset, tevas, and the usual thru-hiker trimmed essentials (first aid and hygiene, mag light, compass, foul weather gear, pack cover and Big Bird's most excellent 35 mm camera. |
